What is thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)?

TSH is produced and released into the bloodstream by the pituitary gland. It controls the production of T3 (triiodothyronine ) and T4 (thyroxine), two thyroid hormones essential to maintaining the body's metabolic rate, heart and digestive functions, muscle control, brain development, and bone maintenance.
